Measuring H0 with CLASS B1608+656: The Second Season of VLA Monitoring

چکیده

The four-component gravitational lens CLASS B1608+656 has been monitored with the VLA for two seasons in order to search for time delays between the components. These time delays can be combined with mass models of the lens system to yield a measurement of H0. The component light curves show significantly different behavior in the two observing seasons. In the first season the light curves have maximum variations of ∼5%, while in the second season the components experienced a nearly monotonic ∼40% decrease in flux. We present the time delays derived from a joint analysis of the light curves from the two seasons.

A Determination of H0 with the CLASS Gravitational Lens B1608+656: III. A Significant Improvement in the Precision of the Time Delay Measurements

The gravitational lens CLASS B1608+656 is the only four-image lens system for which all three independent time delays have been measured. This makes the system an excellent candidate for a high-quality determination of H0 at cosmological distances. However, the original measurements of the time delays had large (12–20%) uncertainties, due to the low level of variability of the background source...

A Determination of H0 with the CLASS Gravitational Lens B1608+656: I. Time Delay Measurements with the VLA

We present the results of a program to monitor the four-image gravitational lens B1608+656 with the VLA. The system was observed over a seven month period from 1996 October to 1997 May. The 64 epochs of observation have an average spacing of 3.6 d. The light curves of the four images of the background source show that the flux density of the background source has varied at the∼5% level. We meas...

The Hubble Constant from (CLASS) Gravitational Lenses

One of the main objectives of the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey (CLASS) collaboration has been to find gravitational lens (GL) systems at radio wavelengths that are suitable for the determination of time delays between image pairs. The survey is now near completion and at least 18 GL systems have been found. Here, I will discuss our efforts to measure time delays from several of these systems with...

Chandra Observations of Gravitational Lenses B1600+434 and B1608+656

We observed B1600+434 and B1608+656 with CXO/ACIS, detecting both quasar images in B1600+434 and three of four images in B1608+656. We did not detect significant X-ray emission from nearby galaxy groups or clusters associated with each lens galaxy. The upper limits on the X-ray luminosity of any cluster within 4 of each lens and at each lens redshift are of ∼ 2 × 10 and ∼ 6× 10 erg s for B1600+...
